Summer Reading Program Kicks Off!

Posted on June 05, 2017

Get ready to Read It & Eat for the 98th annual Summer Reading Program, presented by OneAmerica®! This year, more than 50,000 children, teens and adults are expected to participate. The Summer Reading Program will run from June 5 through July 29. The program is open to children, teens and parents who commit to reading aloud to their children.

A special part of this year’s program is a food drive in partnership with Gleaners Food Bank. Adults can donate non-perishable food items at any Library branch to help feed hungry Hoosiers. Kids and teens can donate goods and earn 20 points toward their Summer Reading Program point totals. Points can be exchanged for special prizes during the program.

Participants can also enter to win one of two college savings accounts with $529 deposited from CollegeChoice CD or an Indianapolis Colts VIP 4 Pack of tickets with pregame sideline passes to a Colts home game. One winner at each of the Library’s 24 locations will receive one pair of Colts tickets at separate branch drawings.

In addition to the reading program, participants can attend programs like Critter Chats and Critter Shows, where children can meet all kinds of animals. Among other programs, the Pacers Summer Reading Tour will host reading stops across the county.
