The Fountain Square Branch of The Indianapolis Public Library is very active in the community it serves. Several branch programs get Library staff into the heart of the community, helping patrons and residents to celebrate the unique place they call home.

The Art Squared Parade is an annual event in Fountain Square where people come out and share in the artistic history of the neighborhood. Visitors from around Indy and abroad visited for the festival. For the fourth year, the Library was there to show off all the programs and services the branch offers. On September 16, Library staff marched in the parade, handing out books and prizes to more than 450 fairgoers. About 40 fairgoers also attended a watercolor painting workshop before the parade. Thanks to Amica Insurance for making this possible.

To encourage safe trick-or-treating during Halloween, the neighborhood puts on Scare in the Square, and the Library was also there to participate. On October 31, Library staff joined other local organizations in celebrating Scare in the Square by handing out books to all the kids who visited the branch. Parents were invited to sign up for Bunny Book Bags, which are bags filled with age-appropriate reading materials to encourage more reading at home.

To close out 2017, the branch is participating in Santa on the Square, a holiday celebration that takes over the neighborhood. From 10 a.m to noon on December 9, you can visit the Fountain Square Branch to get your picture taken with Santa and take a carriage ride. Workshops will include decorating a picture frame or cookie and storytimes. Parents can also sign up for Bunny Book Bags at the event.
